Consenting To Be Paid for Sex Is Still Consenting!
Post Date: 2019-06-04 06:18:53 by Deckard

(Joanna Andreasson. Source image: drante/iStock) Most modern people agree that every individual has the right to set his or her own conditions of consent, even if few of us think about daily life in those terms. "You can borrow my car if you promise to have it back by 4 p.m." is an example of conditional consent at work. "I'll perform this labor for you in exchange for x amount of compensation" is another. "I will have sex with you if you agree to use a condom" is a third. In the realm of sex, consent has been elevated to the level of a sacred word. But in practice, most of us believe in a host of exceptions. We think that some people ...

The Drug War Is Totally Idiotic
Post Date: 2019-06-03 09:34:27 by Deckard

Pardon me for being blunt, but it would be difficult to find anything more idiotic than the war on drugs, an ongoing federal program that has been enacted and enforced by both Republicans and Democrats for decades. The program is sheer idiocy in that its supporters continue to keep it going despite the manifest failure, violence, ruination of lives, expense, racism, and destruction of liberty and privacy that this federal program has produced and continues to produce. But hope springs eternal in the minds of the drug war’s supporters and enforcers. Each new drug bust over the decades, oftentimes accompanied with a large amount of hoopla from the mainstream press, provides these people ...

Abolish the FBI
Post Date: 2019-05-31 09:14:01 by Deckard

As a libertarian, let me make my position clear with respect to the FBI: It should be abolished, not reformed or reined in. That’s because in a free society there is no national police force. Criminal justice, along with all the power a criminal-justice system entails, is best left at the state and local level. National police forces are inherent to totalitarian regimes, such as those in Iran, North Korea, and China. Thus, it’s not a coincidence that the Framers did not provide for a FBI in the Constitution, just as it isn’t a coincidence that our American ancestors did not have a FBI for more than a century after the Constitution called the federal government into existence. ...

Every now and then, I do something “risky” and illegal, to remind myself what it was like when we were still relatively free. I roll one of my old bikes out of the garage and take it for a ride around the backroads near my place without a helmet on. This used to be legal, once upon a time – on the sound premise that it was your head to break and so your business to risk it. Then it became the business of busybodies and control freaks – aka, “the government,” which passes laws that assert the contrary. It is important to keep this in mind. That there is no such beast as “the government.” It is a term a manipulation only; a technique for getting ...

The Time Has Come for Patriotic Dissent: Stopping War With Iran Is Essential
Post Date: 2019-05-22 06:17:45 by Deckard

What if they called a war and no one came? Well, now’s the time folks. The apparent march to war with Iran represents a pivotal moment in the historical arc – the rise and fall – of our republic come empire. This potential war is so unnecessary, so irrational, that it borders on the absurd. Still, since the U.S. now fields a professional, volunteer military, few citizens have “skin in the game.” As such, they could hardly care less. Unlike in past wars – think Vietnam – there is no longer a built in, established antiwar movement. This is unfortunate, and, dangerous for a democracy. See the US Government operates with near impunity in foreign affairs, ...

Should we Push our Values on the Middle East ? (US Gummint poised to re-cycle this bogus premise in potential war with Iran)

Owen Benjamin is a conservative commentator who discusses/critiques the culture from a "Regular Guy"/Common Sense perspective. The discussion within government circles and sources is whether to "spread Democracy" and "our values" on Iran by military means. Benjamin discusses the motivation, morality and hypocrisy of the same US Government that since Iraq War II has been assuring Americans they and our military have indeed been "spreading democracy" (while corrupting and destroying America's own democracy and culture.) Poster Comment:This is an especially good brief riff/convo that poses some good points. The USA is no longer "good." ...

Riding Dirty Daydreams

Lately I have been giving serious thought to “riding dirty” – without insurance. Just cancelling all of it. The savings would be considerable – equivalent to eliminating my monthly electric bill as well as my monthly  Internet bill and a portion of my monthly food bill. These things I need – and so I buy them, without anyone jabbing me in the back with a bayonet. I am happy to pay for these things – because I do need them. I am grateful to those who provide them. The insurance I’m forced to buy for my vehicles? Not so happy about this. I need vehicle insurance like I need a mortgage payment on a condo in Hungary. I have never visited Hungary. I ...

Why Even Staunch Conservatives Should Support Marijuana Decriminalization
Post Date: 2019-05-16 11:30:58 by Deckard

By Matt Liles For a brief moment, marijuana decriminalization in Texas was a bipartisan possibility. The Texas House recently approved a bill that would have prohibited the arrest of individuals for possession of an ounce or less of marijuana. But when it was passed on to the state Senate, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick immediately gathered a Republican majority in opposition and killed the bill. Like in Texas, swaths of conservatives around the country are holding out against the rising tide of decriminalization as more states are eliminating criminal penalties for possession. While this might be well-intentioned, it’s a mistake—marijuana decriminalization is firmly in line ...

(Birds of a feather) Reps. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., are rabidly anti-Semitic Muslim bigots and haters of America. Collectively, with their congressional Muslim counterparts, they unambiguously showcase every negative opinion held by civilized human beings who distrust their kind. They are uncouth, common, contumacious daughters of evil, who find America and Israel objectionable but somehow overlook the treatment of Islamic women and girls. Specific to same, let’s ask how far the congresswomen’s duplicitous double standards extend. Both of these women openly defend Shariah law. I want them to tell us what it’s like to have a mother, grandmother ...

The 10 Most Destructive Americans of My 8 Decades
Post Date: 2019-04-25 07:47:36 by IbJensen

America has undergone enormous change during the nearly eight decades of my life. Today, America is a bitterly divided, poorly educated and morally fragile society with so-called mainstream politicians pushing cynical identity politics, socialism and open borders. The president of the United States is threatened with impeachment because the other side doesn’t like him. The once reasonably unbiased American media has evolved into a hysterical left wing mob. How could the stable and reasonably cohesive America of the 1950s have reached this point in just one lifetime? Who are the main culprits? Here’s my list of the 10 most destructive Americans of the last 80 years. 10) Mark ...

Why Bernie Sanders Can Defeat Donald Trump in 2020

With his veto this week of legislation intended to end United States military support for the war on Yemen, President Donald Trump may have ensured his defeat to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in the 2020 presidential election. That is an argument political commentator Patrick J. Buchanan persuasively presents in a new editorial. With that veto, writes Buchanan, “Trump may have just ceded the peace issue in 2020 to the Democrats.” Buchanan continues: If Sanders emerges as the nominee, we will have an election with a Democrat running on the “no-more-wars” theme Trump touted in 2016. And Trump will be left defending the bombing of Yemeni rebels and civilians by Crown Prince ...

Financial Tyranny: America Has Become a Pay-to-Play Exercise in Fascism

The Top Ten Evilest People of All-Time

Have you ever wondered who the evilest people to ever walk this earth are? Adolf Hitler always seems to be the go-to reference in such conversations. It is a difficult thing to quantify. Do we do it statistically — that is, according to who killed the most people — or should it be based on their evil influence on history? My list relies on both. Of course, it’s totally subjective, but those making the Top Ten might surprise you. So, starting in reverse order, I give you a list of people who will make you feel better about yourself: 10. (tie) The Kims: Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il, and Kim Jong-un This is quite possibly history’s worst political dynasty. In addition to ...

American Idiocracy: 50 Years Later, We’re Still Stranded in the Twilight Zone

“We’re developing a new citizenry. One that will be very selective about cereals and automobiles, but won’t be able to think.”—Rod Serling Have you noticed how much life increasingly feels like an episode of The Twilight Zone? Only instead of Rod Serling’s imaginary “land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas,” we’re trapped in a topsy-turvy, all-too-real land of corruption, brutality and lies, where freedom, justice and integrity play second fiddle to political ambition, corporate greed, and bureaucratic tyranny. It’s not merely that life in the American Police State is more brutal, or more unjust, or even more corrupt. ...

A Conspiracy Theorist Confesses to his Petty Crimes

Conservatives and Progressives Are Denialists

One of the major differences between libertarians, on the one hand, and conservatives and progressives, on the other, is with respect to freedom and reality. When it comes to the concept of freedom, libertarians have a grip on reality. Conservatives and progressives don’t. Both conservatives and liberals are convinced that they live in a free society. This mindset is reflected in various ways. The Pledge of Allegiance comes to mind. Having had this pledge inculcated in them in public schools since the first grade, conservatives and liberals continue to recite it at public events long into adulthood and all the way until the day they die. As they dutifully put their hands on their ...

Depravity, Frivolity, and Dissent: Are We Watching the End of an Empire?

The Organic Prepper A 40-year-old essay predicted the end of an empire and current events sure make it look like we’re watching it happen in real time. I spend a fair bit of time scanning the news every day for my site, Preppers Daily News. And some days, I just have to shake my head as I realize that people are so desperate for…something…that they just keep going to further and further extremes to try and find that elusive thing their lives are missing.  The more I read, the more likeness I see to Sir John Glubb’s essay, The Fate of Empires and Search for Survival. (It’s only 24 pages and you should definitely read it – it’s brilliant.) ...

Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaafety has cost us a lot – and not just money. It has sucked almost all of the the fun out of driving – especially for those who were born after the Safety Cult established itself as mainstream state religion. The Millennials, god help them. And us. It happened during the ’90s, when strange rituals which had previously been practiced by a few neurasthenic people – fearful of everything – became state policy, enforced upon everyone. These things are now unquestionable dogma. For example, cossetting kids in saaaaaaaaaaaaaaafety seats for the duration of every drive.Every drive has thus become a time-consuming chore for the parents – no more just ...

Why True Conservatism Means Anarchy

For the sake of preserving liberty and tradition, conservatives should reject the state’s legitimacy.“I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided; and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging of the future but by the past.” These words are Patrick Henry’s, uttered in the course of his famous oration known for its powerful closing words “give me liberty or give me death.” Although Henry probably did not intend it as a sociopolitical axiom, the Anglo-American conservative tradition has adopted it as such. Conservatives rightly look to the past to influence their views of the future. Change in the basic structure of society’s ...

Driving a car that has loose lug nuts is always unsafe. No one in their right mind would knowingly do it.Driving a car that might not hold up as well as a tank in a crash – if you have one – is not “unsafe.”You’ve simply accepted a heightened degree of potential risk – a greater chance of injury in the event you do crash – for the sake of a tangible (and certain) reward, such as better fuel economy or visibility.Like a lot of people over 40, I grew up driving cars that would be libeled as “unsafe” by the government, if anyone tried to make them today. The ’74 Beetle I owned while I was in college and for several years after, for example. It ...

Tobacco Bans and Marijuana Bans

Hawaii state representative Richard Creagan is on a mission. Actually, he is on a crusade. He wants to effectively ban the smoking of cigarettes. Hawaii is already one of six states (California, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Oregon being the others) where the minimum age to purchase cigarettes has already been raised to 21. But age 21 is not high enough for the Hawaii lawmaker. Creagan has introduced a bill (HB1509) to raise the minimum age at which Hawaiians can buy cigarettes to age 100. The bill has got to be read to be believed. Here are some excerpts: The legislature finds that the cigarette is considered the deadliest artifact in human history.  The cigarette is an ...

What Should Be Christians’ Response to ‘Same-Sex Marriage’? [Full Thread]
Post Date: 2019-02-06 10:46:09 by IbJensen

The attempts to redefine marriage have been going on for more than a decade. In the past few months, Ireland and USA have made overt, definite steps to legalize same-sex marriage. Many other countries around the world are moving in the same direction. In Singapore too, the voice in favor of same-sex marriage is getting louder. There is an incredible surge of interest in affirming homosexuality over the last few months. In my opinion, ‘gay marriage’ will soon become a common practice across the world. Therefore, we must not dither over this issue! Should Christians go along with the changing mindset of modern society about marriage? Unfortunately, some churches around the world ...

Even if Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas were selling heroin out of their house, the government's violent response cannot be morally justified. On Monday evening in Houston, a dozen armed men broke into the home of Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas, a middle-aged couple who had lived in the house at 7815 Harding Street for at least two decades. The first man through the door, who was armed with a shotgun, used it to kill one of the couple's dogs. Tuttle responded to the home invasion by grabbing a revolver and shooting the man with the shotgun, who collapsed on a sofa in the living room. As Nicholas tried to disarm the intruder, his accomplices shot her. Tuttle returned fire, and ...

For decades I’ve had my doubts about whether America is still the land of the free. With rules and enforcers everywhere you look, it doesn’t seem so. I’ve been wrong. Most Americans are free — as free as they want to be. I prefer liberty to freedom. Liberty means having the freedom to do everything you have a right to do; freedom is simply doing whatever you want, without regard for others. This is why, for most Americans, America is the “Land of the Free.” They are doing what they want. They tolerate checkpoints because they make them feel safe. They comply with the airport “security theater” gauntlet, pretending it’s fighting terrorism. They ...
