LOS ANGELES — Travelers passing through Los Angeles International Airport are finding that security officers have more than a scan or pat-down for them this holiday season. They're offering musical entertainment, too. The LAX TSA Choir, a group of 17 singers and musicians, all of them officers of the Transportation Security Administration, have been surprising passengers with performances of holiday music and other tunes in the midst of one of the nation's busiest airports. "Wow, it's crazy," said Miriam Kositchek of Santa Monica, Calif., who was clutching her ticket and passport for a flight to London when the LAX TSA Choir broke into song at the Bradley ...

Sharron Angle launches 'Patriot Caucus' Former Nevada GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle is angling to lead the tea party movement heading into 2012. Angle over the weekend unveiled the Patriot Caucus, a PAC that she says has the support of tea party organizers in 15 states and which will "organize a ground game across most battleground states for the 2012 election cycle." The group plans to open offices in Iowa, New Hampshire, Florida and Nevada – states with early presidential primaries and caucuses – in early 2011. "The tea party movement stood with me through a hard fought race against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid," Angle said in a ...

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin began a tightly stage-managed visit to Haiti on Saturday in which she visited cholera clinics while avoiding crowds and the press. The 2008 vice presidential candidate was a guest of Rev. Franklin Graham, whose aid group works in the impoverished country. Haiti is facing a brutal cholera epidemic while struggling with an electoral crisis and reconstruction from the January earthquake. Palin, who traveled in part by helicopter, provided access on her tour solely to the U.S. cable network Fox News. Graham's organization, Samaritan's Purse, refused to discuss Palin's itinerary with other media and asked Haitian and ...

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Christine O'Donnell's TV ad declaration "I'm not a witch" during her U.S. Senate campaign topped this year's best quotes, according to a Yale University librarian. O'Donnell's quote is cited by Fred Shapiro, associate librarian at Yale Law School, who released his fifth annual list of the most notable quotations of the year. In the ad, O'Donnell was responding to reports of her revelations that she had dabbled in witchcraft years ago. "It was such a remarkable unconventional quote to be a part of the political discourse," Shapiro said. The quote by O'Donnell, a tea party favorite running in Delaware, tied for ...

Sarah Palin, according to security researcher Sean-Paul Correll of PandaLabs. Correll has been maintaining a frequently updated blog on the unfolding attacks. "Sarah Palin's Alaska" set a TLC ratings record when it debuted to 5 million viewers last week, but the second episode showed a huge drop-off in viewership. Episode two of the Palin reality show averaged just 3 million viewers, down 40% from the previous week. Perhaps more troubling are the viewer demographics. The show averaged just 885,000 viewers in the advertiser-friendly 18-49 demo, and the median age of the show's viewer is a whopping 57 years old. According to The Live Feed's James Hibberd, that's 15 years older than TLC's median age of 42. Poster Comment:Freak shows never keep their audience long.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A military officer who heard from more than two dozen soldiers wounded during last year's deadly Fort Hood shooting rampage issued an initial recommendation Tuesday about whether an Army psychiatrist should stand trial in the attack. But the military is not releasing the report. Col. James Pohl, who oversaw the recent Article 32 hearing for Maj. Nidal Hasan, gave his report to another high-ranking Army official. If that officer believes that Hasan should be court-martialed, a commanding general still must make the final determination. Pohl's recommendation is not subject to public disclosure laws, Fort Hood officials said. Hasan's lead defense ...

Americans' view of Sarah Palin is more unfavorable now than at any time since she was the Republican vice presidential nominee. According to a poll released Friday, 52 percent now say they have an unfavorable view of the former Alaska governor, whose visibility remains high following her campaign efforts during the midterm election season. Her unfavorability rating hit 50 percent only one other time, in October 2009. Those who view Palin positively have also declined this year, from a consistent 44 percent of the public in late 2009 to 40 percent this November. She remains popular among a wide majority of Republicans (80 percent), as she was in November 2008 (83 percent). Among ...

Although it received very little coverage in the mainstream media, Barack Obama made some comments about globalism during his speech in Mumbai, India that were very eye-opening. As he was discussing the new realities of world trade in 2010, Obama warned against "those who see globalization as a threat" and he spoke of the "integrated world" in which we all now live. But is merging the entire globe into a one world economy, a one world financial system and a one world labor market really the best thing for the American people? For the past two decades, all U.S. presidents have been heralding the benefits of merging the American economy with the rest of the globe. George ...

But one of the staffers was described as a “counselor” to help with the emotional aspect of the loss — and a section in the packet each staffer was given dealt with the stages of grief (for instance, Stage One being anger, and so on). “It was like it was about death,” the staffer said. “It was bizarre.” The staffer did say the portions about the benefits and résumé writing were ...

Tea party support helped elect Republicans nationally last week, but local members of both groups aren't sure whether they now want to build bridges or burn them. The GOP and the tea party share some principles -- particularly for smaller government, lower taxes and free markets. But the Hamilton County Republican Party chairwoman says the tea party is a clique of conservatives not willing to respect party procedures. "They've become exclusive and very elitist. Some of them are even cultish," Chairwoman Delores Vinson said. "About what they are good for is siphoning off votes from the Republicans." And Chattanooga Tea Party President Mark West says the local ...

President Barack Obama will undoubtedly employ top-notch security during his Indian travels this week, but there's one additional threat White House officials might not have previously considered -- New Dehli's infamous herds of stray monkeys. According to the Telegraph, Delhi's police force have opted to build 30-foot-tall towers not far from the exclusive ITC Mauriya Hotel, where the Obamas will be staying for two days, in order to shield the president and his wife from both potential terrorists and monkeys. The hotel's proximity to the capital's Ridge Forest means the menacing animals have relatively easy access. In addition to general daily mayhem, the ...

Paladino states that President Obama is a Muslim— an opinion DiPietro staunchly defended in one phone interview Friday before later repudiating it. “Barack Obama is a Muslim,” said DiPietro, former East Aurora mayor. “I don’t like the president. I think he’s a Muslim. I think he’s a foreigner to our nation. I oppose every principle he stands for.” He later said he spoke in the heat of the moment and apologized if he sounded offensive. “He says he’s a ...

Electric mini-ccars such as this Mitsubishi i-MiEV, due in the U.S. next year, might become commonplace if the federal government boosts the fuel-ecomp,y standard to 60 mpg in 2025, as advocates hope. Meeting that standard would mean that most cars would be advanced hybrids and battery electrics. Advocates and lobbyists say today the Obama administration will unveil a plan for fuel-economy standards on cars as high as 62 miles per gallon in 2025. Timing aside, the cost to you could be significant. The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), an advocacy group that favors the 60 mpg standard, says such a regulation would boost the price of a car an average $2,700 in today's dollars, ...

Claremont Institute Tells TPM O'Donnell's 2002 Resume Listed Oxford University One thing we know is true: Christine O'Donnell was a Lincoln Fellow at the Claremont Institute in 2002. The rest, as we've closely chronicled, is all a bit fuzzy. But TPM just spoke with a Claremont official who reviewed O'Donnell's 2002 application file. Ryan Williams, who oversees the Lincoln Fellowship program, told us that O'Donnell lists a certificate from Oxford University on her resume. "She did have a line about Oxford," he said as he looked at her file, which also included an essay and letters of recommendation. Williams told us the item on O'Donnell's ...
