Catholic priest Kevin Gray stole $1M and spent it on male escorts: police
Post Date: 2010-07-07 15:59:37 by WhiteSands
A disgruntled Catholic priest was charged Tuesday with raiding church coffers to finance a double life befitting a mogul - and to pay for male escorts. The Rev. Kevin Gray, former pastor at Sacred Heart in Waterbury, Conn., was charged with first-degree larceny, which carries up to 20 years in prison. He allegedly stole $1.3 million over seven years and spent some of the cash on designer duds and luxury Manhattan hotels and restaurants. Gray, 64, stayed at the W Hotel and the Waldorf-Astoria, ate at Tavern on the Green and bought Armani and Brooks Brothers suits, cell phones and laptops, said Waterbury police Capt. Christopher Corbett. He opened credit card accounts for two men he had ...

Post Date: 2010-07-04 21:16:18 by WhiteSands
A Walpole priest was charged yesterday with sexually assaulting a man he’d followed into the woods at a Canton rest stop, police said. The Rev. Emile R. “Mike” Boutin, 46, a youth pastor at Blessed Sacrament in Walpole, pleaded not guilty to indecent assault and battery at his arraignment in Stoughton District Court, said Norfolk District Attorney spokesman David Traub. Boutin, ordained in 1991, was ordered to “refrain from public ministry” pending the outcome of his criminal case, said Terrence Donilon, a spokesman for the Archdiocese of Boston. At about 8:30 a.m. yesterday, a 21-year-old man told police he pulled into the Park & Ride lot off Route 138 in ...

5 Pathetic Groups That PeopleThink Rule the World

Oh, look, they made another Dan Brown movie at some point. Angels & Demons deals with the deep dark secret organization, The Illuminati, and their attempts to control the world, which means you're probably going to be hearing a lot about that in the next few months on certain, paranoid websites. Yes, wide-ranging conspiracy theories aren't limited to pulp novels reenacted by a terrible Tom Hanks haircut. YouTube and Digg comments and countless blogs are full of people ranting about the secret elite who are out to enslave all of us. They have a lot of reasons for believing the following groups are the guilty parties behind everything wrong with the world, and most of those reasons are ...

Report: With dozens of past priest sex abuse cases, Kansas Catholic dioceses not forthcoming
Post Date: 2010-06-24 00:50:03 by WhiteSands
By Associated Press 2:39 PM CDT, June 23, 2010 LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — A newspaper report says that Kansas Catholic dioceses are still keeping information about abusive priests from the public. The Lawrence Journal-World reported Wednesday that its two-year investigation with local cable television's 6News found several dozen cases of alleged sexual abuse by priests, stretching back to the 1950s. But the newspaper also says it was unable to determine the extent of the problem because church officials in Kansas provided only limited information. That's despite 2002 reforms by the church promising to be open and transparent with the public about sexual abuse.

Post Date: 2010-06-23 20:48:56 by Brian S
An American actor known for his allegiance with Israel has authored a scathing open letter to US President Barack Obama, accusing him of "putting Israel in harm's way. Academy Award-winning actor and ardent Israel supporter Jon Voight published a missive to the US president in The Washington Times on June 22. "You will be the first American president that lied to the Jewish people, and the American people as well, when you said that you would defend Israel… against all their enemies," the letter began. Voight went on to accuse President Obama of "propagandiz[ing] Israel" and "promot[ing] anti-Semitism throughout the world." "You have ...

Sepe asserts that during his time as head of the department until 2006, the Vatican always approved ...

The magistrates in the central city of Perugia are investigating a web of corruption and favours involving public works contracts, mostly in construction for major events, such as last year's G8 summit and the millennium celebrations. Under Oath, L.A. Cardinal Mahony Admitted Protecting Abusive Priest
Post Date: 2010-06-21 20:49:01 by WhiteSands
While the Los Angeles headlines have been dominated by the Kobe Bryant and the Lakers' "desperate" quest for an NBA title win against the Celtics, the region's religion news is considerably more grim: newly released court documents confirm that L.A. Cardinal Mahony admitted in a sworn deposition to sheltering an abusive priest during the 1980s. (This news comes just a few days after Pope Benedict wrapped up the "Year for Priests" with another apology for the global clergy abuse scandal.) The abuser, Father Michael Baker, is currently serving a 10-year prison term. Investigators have decided that there isn't enough evidence to file charges against the ...

Santiago, Chile (CNN) -- The archbishop of Santiago has asked the Vatican to investigate a priest accused of sexually abusing four minors, a church official said. Archbishop Francisco Javier Errazuriz decided to ask the Vatican to intercede after learning of the grave accusations against the Rev. Fernando Karadima, the church official said in a statement broadcast Friday on CNN Chile, CNN's partner network in the nation, and on the Chilean church's website. "The strong accusations, their painful airing on television, the scandal they have provoked and the investigative process have produced in our community sentiments of suffering, disorder and lack of faith," Errazuriz ...

Rahm Traded Favors with Blago: Report
Post Date: 2010-06-21 19:09:38 by WhiteSands
President Barack Obama's chief of staff, then a congressman in Illinois, apparently attempted to trade favors with embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich while he was in office, according to newly disclosed e-mails obtained by The Associated Press. Emanuel agreed to sign a letter to the Chicago Tribune supporting Blagojevich in the face of a scathing editorial by the newspaper that ridiculed the governor for self-promotion. Within hours, Emanuel's own staff asked for a favor of its own: The release of a delayed $2 million grant to a school in his district. The 2006 discussion occured with Blagojevich's top aide, Deputy Gov. Bradley Tusk, and doesn't appear to cross legal ...

Don't Believe the Hype: Rahm Emanuel Not About to Step Down [ Isreali citizen ]
Post Date: 2010-06-21 18:21:55 by WhiteSands
Everyone from Slate to National Review is credulously citing a report in The Daily Telegraph that White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is planning to leave after the midterm elections. It's silly that a report from a unnamed source to a British newspaper with no sources to speak of in the White House would be given such credence today. The truth is this: Emanuel has said publicly and privately for months that if Rich Daley doesn't seek reelection (which he will determine at the end of the year) for mayor of Chicago, Rahm will move back home and jump in the race. He may leave his job then anyway, mostly because he's just tired. But he continues to enjoy Obama's full ...

The Archdiocese of Hartford made the discovery after reviewing the church's finances. The Archdiocese claims Rev. In an interview to be broadcast Monday evening on ABC News Nightline, the priest's son, Raul Gonzalez, 30, says he thought his father worked for the CIA or an international oil company, until he saw the priest's picture in a 1997 magazine article detailing allegations of sexual abuse. Rahm Emanuel expected to quit White House
Post Date: 2010-06-21 01:10:34 by WhiteSands
Washington insiders say he will quit within six to eight months in frustration at their unwillingness to "bang heads together" to get policy pushed through. Mr Emanuel, 50, enjoys a good working relationship with Mr Obama but they are understood to have reached an understanding that differences over style mean he will serve only half the full four-year term. Friends say he is also worried about burnout and losing touch with his young family due to the pressure of one of most high profile jobs in US politics. "I would bet he will go after the midterms," said a leading Democratic consultant in Washington. "Nobody thinks it's working but they can't get rid ...

Napolitano: Internet Monitoring Needed to Fight Homegrown Terrorism
Post Date: 2010-06-20 19:07:06 by WhiteSands
WASHINGTON -- Fighting homegrown terrorism by monitoring Internet communications is a civil liberties trade-off the U.S. government must make to beef up national security, the nation's homeland security chief said Friday. As terrorists increasingly recruit U.S. citizens, the government needs to constantly balance Americans' civil rights and privacy with the need to keep people safe, said Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. But finding that balance has become more complex as homegrown terrorists have used the Internet to reach out to extremists abroad for inspiration and training. Those contacts have spurred a recent rash of U.S.-based terror plots and incidents. ...

Disgraced German bishop stirs messy Catholic row
Post Date: 2010-06-19 17:05:29 by WhiteSands
By Tom Heneghan, Religion Editor Reuters Thursday, June 17, 2010; 12:16 PM PARIS (Reuters) - A messy dispute has broken out in Germany's Catholic Church after a bishop accused of abusing minors said his superiors had tricked Pope Benedict into retiring him and he might ask the Vatican to be reinstated. Bishop Walter Mixa, who quit in April after admitting he had slapped children decades ago, said fellow bishops conspired to force him to tender his resignation and used a flimsy allegation of sexual abuse as a "trump card" to get Benedict to accept it. The bishops concerned flatly denied the accusations and hinted that Mixa, 69, who had stayed briefly in a psychiatric clinic ...

(FNC) Hackers must be behind Senate candidate Alvin Greene's victory in the South Carolina Democratic primary last week, Rep. James Clyburn claimed in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday. Trying to account for how a candidate who had no money and no campaign infrastructure was able to pull out a victory over a well-funded local lawmaker in a statewide race, the powerful South Carolina Democrat said the touch-screen voting machines used by the state ...

Dodging the Anti-Semitism Bullet
Post Date: 2010-06-15 09:37:25 by Badeye
Dodging the Anti-Semitism Bullet By J.R. Dunn The announcement that Helen Thomas has been sent to journalistic Valhalla is good news on several levels. Not only because it at last removes an erratic, out-of-control figure who has represented a political and social embarrassment for decades, but also because it signals that America has once again dodged the anti-Semitism bullet. A country that accepts anti-Semitism is a country on its way to destruction. The historical record could not be clearer on this. Late 19th-century Germany was one of the leading states of the Western world, the heir of Beethoven and Goethe, a standard-setter for the sciences, the humanities, and education, a ...
