Rashid Khalidi, a friend of President Obamas active in Palestinian causes, has signed an appeal for funds to send to Gaza an aid ship that would be named after the presidents best-selling book, The Audacity of Hope. A group calling itself U.S. Boat to Gaza is seeking $370,000 in the next month to send the ship in an effort to thwart the Israeli blockade on the Palestinian enclave controlled by the militant group Hamas. A number of other prominent individuals are listed as support the appeal, including Angela Y. Davis and Alice Walker. We turn to you to help make the U.S. boat, The Audacity of Hope, a reality. Your request is being processed... Sharron Angle Runs From Reporters At Her Own Press Conference (VIDEO)
Post Date: 2010-07-22 14:21:27 by Skip Intro
Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle proved to be camera shy once again when she declined to take questions from reporters at a media-friendly event organized by her campaign on Wednesday. The Republican hopeful's camp described the Reno, Nev. gathering as a "press conference" held to publicize Angle's signing of a pledge to repeal the "death tax" -- better known as the estate tax -- if she were to be elected to the Senate. When local reporters attempted to ask Angle questions, the GOP hopeful all but ignored their presence. At the end of the event she bolted quickly. As she left the press conference a local television reporter called after her: ...
Vampires Get Their Teeth Into US Public

She loves the taste of blood, hates the sun, and, if you ask, will tell you she died in a train accident back in 1892: meet Seregon O'Dalley, a would-be vampire living in New Jersey. She's far from alone. Vampires are in fashion across the United States, encouraged by the hit TV series "True Blood," now in its third season, the "Twilight" movies and "Vampire Diaries." Stories about feeding on blood are greedily consumed and eagerly published. For a pastime with dark, anti-religious overtones vampire fashion is itself becoming oddly like an organized religion. There are rules, priests, private gatherings and large-scale celebrations. Hundreds of ...

Priest pleads in theft case [ Catholic priest accused of embezzling about $200,000 ]
Post Date: 2010-07-15 18:14:05 by WhiteSands
A Catholic priest accused of embezzling about $200,000 from two Crawford County parishes and the Diocese of La Crosse entered an Alford plea to reduced charges Wednesday. The Rev. Robert Chukwu, 59, made the plea in Crawford County Circuit Court to three counts of misdemeanor theft and entered an 18-month deferred prosecution agreement, said Jim Birnbaum, attorney for the La Crosse Diocese. The plea means Chukwu admits no wrongdoing but concedes a jury likely would have found him guilty. Two of the three charges will be dismissed after 18 months if Chukwu obeys all conditions, Birnbaum said. A restitution amount will be determined at a later hearing. A felony theft charge filed Jan. 29 ...

Earth is much younger than previously thought
Post Date: 2010-07-11 19:16:04 by A K A Stone
Researchers have calculated that the planet could have taken far longer to form following the birth of the solar system 4.567 billion years ago than scientists have previously believed. By comparing chemical isotopes from the Earth's mantle with those from meteorites, geologists at the University of Cambridge claim the planet reached its current size around 4.467 billion years ago. Scientists have in the past estimated that the Earth's development, a process known as accretion where gas, dust and other material clumped together to form the planet, happened over just 30 million years. But the new research suggests this process may have taken up to 100 million years more ...

New Black Panthers Shabazz: Fox News Stoking Racial Fears By Don Irvine | July 8, 2010 New Black Panther Party Chairman Malik Shabazz told a Russian TV reporter that Fox News should be ashamed of themselves and that the charges of voter intimidation leveled against them by the Justice Department had no merit. Shabazz also said the Fox News audience was made up of mostly white right wingers, some independents, confederates and racist organizations and that their base are mostly dissatisfied whites who want to take back America. If anything one could accuse Shabazz of fomenting violence as he talked about a potential confrontation with the Tea Party Movement in September saying ...

Oh, look, they made another Dan Brown movie at some point. Angels & Demons deals with the deep dark secret organization, The Illuminati, and their attempts to control the world, which means you're probably going to be hearing a lot about that in the next few months on certain, paranoid websites.
Yes, wide-ranging conspiracy theories aren't limited to pulp novels reenacted by a terrible Tom Hanks haircut. YouTube and Digg comments and countless blogs are full of people ranting about the secret elite who are out to enslave all of us.
They have a lot of reasons for believing the following groups are the guilty parties behind everything wrong with the world, and most of those reasons are ...
Report: With dozens of past priest sex abuse cases, Kansas Catholic dioceses not forthcoming
Post Date: 2010-06-24 00:50:03 by WhiteSands
By Associated Press 2:39 PM CDT, June 23, 2010 LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) A newspaper report says that Kansas Catholic dioceses are still keeping information about abusive priests from the public. The Lawrence Journal-World reported Wednesday that its two-year investigation with local cable television's 6News found several dozen cases of alleged sexual abuse by priests, stretching back to the 1950s. But the newspaper also says it was unable to determine the extent of the problem because church officials in Kansas provided only limited information. That's despite 2002 reforms by the church promising to be open and transparent with the public about sexual abuse.

Under Oath, L.A. Cardinal Mahony Admitted Protecting Abusive Priest
Post Date: 2010-06-21 20:49:01 by WhiteSands
While the Los Angeles headlines have been dominated by the Kobe Bryant and the Lakers' "desperate" quest for an NBA title win against the Celtics, the region's religion news is considerably more grim: newly released court documents confirm that L.A. Cardinal Mahony admitted in a sworn deposition to sheltering an abusive priest during the 1980s. (This news comes just a few days after Pope Benedict wrapped up the "Year for Priests" with another apology for the global clergy abuse scandal.) The abuser, Father Michael Baker, is currently serving a 10-year prison term. Investigators have decided that there isn't enough evidence to file charges against the ...

Archbishop Francisco Javier Errazuriz decided to ask the Vatican to intercede after learning of the grave accusations against the Rev. Fernando Karadima, the church official said in a statement broadcast Friday on CNN Chile, CNN's partner network in the nation, and on the Chilean church's website. "The strong accusations, their painful airing on television, the scandal they have provoked and the investigative process have produced in our community sentiments of suffering, disorder and lack of faith," Errazuriz ...
Rahm Traded Favors with Blago: Report
Post Date: 2010-06-21 19:09:38 by WhiteSands
President Barack Obama's chief of staff, then a congressman in Illinois, apparently attempted to trade favors with embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich while he was in office, according to newly disclosed e-mails obtained by The Associated Press. Emanuel agreed to sign a letter to the Chicago Tribune supporting Blagojevich in the face of a scathing editorial by the newspaper that ridiculed the governor for self-promotion. Within hours, Emanuel's own staff asked for a favor of its own: The release of a delayed $2 million grant to a school in his district. The 2006 discussion occured with Blagojevich's top aide, Deputy Gov. Bradley Tusk, and doesn't appear to cross legal ...
Don't Believe the Hype: Rahm Emanuel Not About to Step Down [ Isreali citizen ]
Post Date: 2010-06-21 18:21:55 by WhiteSands
Everyone from Slate to National Review is credulously citing a report in The Daily Telegraph that White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is planning to leave after the midterm elections. It's silly that a report from a unnamed source to a British newspaper with no sources to speak of in the White House would be given such credence today. The truth is this: Emanuel has said publicly and privately for months that if Rich Daley doesn't seek reelection (which he will determine at the end of the year) for mayor of Chicago, Rahm will move back home and jump in the race. He may leave his job then anyway, mostly because he's just tired. But he continues to enjoy Obama's full ...

Rahm Emanuel expected to quit White House
Post Date: 2010-06-21 01:10:34 by WhiteSands
Washington insiders say he will quit within six to eight months in frustration at their unwillingness to "bang heads together" to get policy pushed through. Mr Emanuel, 50, enjoys a good working relationship with Mr Obama but they are understood to have reached an understanding that differences over style mean he will serve only half the full four-year term. Friends say he is also worried about burnout and losing touch with his young family due to the pressure of one of most high profile jobs in US politics. "I would bet he will go after the midterms," said a leading Democratic consultant in Washington. "Nobody thinks it's working but they can't get rid ...
