Why Objectivist Libertarianism is Anti-Biblical, Oppressive and Evil
Post Date: 2018-07-09 08:40:35 by Gatlin

Few terms are more appealing to the human ear than the word, liberty. With liberty, we are free to do whatever we like. All of us prefer to do what we like over being forced to do what we do not like. So how can anyone not love liberty? Of course, if everyone has absolute liberty simultaneously, it doesn’t take long to realize that liberty to do whatever we like is liberty for others to do whatever they like to us. If I like punching people, and the government lets me do so in the name of liberty, the people I punch will probably dislike my punching them. Suddenly, not everyone is so happy with liberty. It’s this conundrum that leads libertarians to redefine liberty as it ...

Problems With Christian Libertarianism

I have said it before and will say it again: if you want to be a hard-core libertarian, fine; but then don’t claim to be a biblical Christian at the same time. The more radical the libertarians of the right get, the more indistinguishable they are from the anarchists of the left. Both have almost a pathological hatred of the state, and want no government, or at least hardly any at all. Now, I happen to be a conservative, so I too am no fan of big government. Limited government and a constrained state are certainly what I do promote. But as a biblical Christian, I have to be true to the biblical text ahead of any political ideology. And of course the Bible makes it perfectly clear ...

I Was a Libertarian Internet Troll — How I Turned My Mind Around

For a growing boy, there are more dangerous things on the Internet than spyware-addled porn sites. One of them is white dude-bro culture — you know, the kind rife with men who threaten to murder women for wanting representation in video games and compare themselves to the KKK. For years, I tiptoed too close to this dark side of the Web. My Internet life began innocently. My father had two main Web-surfing rules: No downloading (I still don’t think he actually knows what that means) and no talking to strangers. Also, seven people lived in my house. We shared one computer. Seven people sharing one bathroom would’ve been preferable to that. So I played games. I looked up cheat ...

Instead of socialized medicine why not socialized judicial system? I have been thinking(I know bad idea) that instead of socialised medical system why not socialised judicial system? Lets have lawyers all be paid by the state. This way the pay can be regulated by the state. This way everyone can enjoy coverage by a lawyer at their need. There would be no need for the ACLU and other groups because lawyers would be provided to anyone that feels the need to sue someone. Really if we are going to ruin a system lets ruin the lawyer business instead of the medical business that was the best in the world. If there is one group that is overpaid and needs regulation are lawyers. They do not ...

Court upholds convictions of 2012 Ron Paul campaign staffers

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A federal appeals court on Friday upheld the convictions of three top staffers on Ron Paul's 2012 presidential campaign who were found guilty of arranging for money to be funneled through a vendor to an influential Iowa state senator who dropped his support for another Republican candidate in favor of Paul. Campaign chairman Jesse Benton, campaign manager John Tate and deputy campaign manager Dimitri Kesari were convicted in 2016 of causing false records to be filed, causing false campaign expenditure reports, engaging in a false statements scheme and conspiring to commit the offenses. Kesari was sentenced to three months in prison while the other two got ...

Libertarianism and white nationalism actually aren’t that different

One of the occupational hazards of being a college opinion columnist is that, during your undergraduate years, many of your thoughts are liable to be stupid. And while tweets can be deleted and pseudo-intellectual dining hall conversations forgotten, opinion columns persist in the not-too-generous world of the internet. Because I'm not immune from this malady, my name is attached to some very dumb takes. In The Diamondback's pages, I've suggested that Barack Obama should've escalated the American military presence in Syria and compared excessive road salt in Washington, D.C., to 9/11. But there's one column that stands out as particularly embarrassing. In this piece ...

After being resoundingly voted out of the party's vice-chairmanship over his comments about veterans, school shootings, and age-of-consent laws, the activist/entrepreneur throws his hat in the ring against Adam Kokesh and a presumed Bill Weld. Arvin Vohra, a 39- year-old educational entrepreneur notorious for questioning age-of-consent laws for 14-year-olds, for arguing that joining the military to pay for college is "morally ...

Report: Self-described pedophile who advocates white supremacy is running for Congress

Among the candidates running against incumbent Rep. Barbara Comstock in Virginia's Tenth Congressional District is a self-described pedophile who has allegedly admitted he raped his late spouse and advocates what he calls "benevolent white supremacy." Thirty-seven-year-old Nathan Larson, an accountant, confirmed to the Huffington Post Thursday that he had created the websites "suiped.org" and "incelocalypse.today" -- which were chat rooms for pedophiles and misogynists. The sites were taken down earlier this week by their domain host. HuffPost reports that Larson used "Leucosticte" and "Lysander" as user names to post in the chat rooms, ...

The Libertarian Party: Bringing good ideas to America since 1971

“‘Abolish ICE!’ is the new rallying cry for progressive Democrats,” reports NBC News’s Alex Seitz-Wald. It’s “a radical idea and one that was confined to the fringes just months ago,” but one that “left-wing insurgents can use to differentiate themselves from more established rivals in Democratic primaries.” Good idea. So good, in fact, that I wrote a column advocating exactly that three months ago. Welcome to the right side, Democrats. Like most Libertarians, I’m amused when our ideological opponents see a parade forming around one of our ideas and try to hustle their way to the front to “lead” it. Unlike some ...

Justin Amash can’t seem to concentrate. His eyes keep drifting toward the TV behind me, mounted on the wall inside his congressional office. The 36-year-old representative from Michigan, who arrived in Washington six years ago as a self-described libertarian Republican, is rattling off a list of concerns about the newly inaugurated president, but he is distracted by C-SPAN’s programming: Mick Mulvaney, his close friend and colleague from South Carolina—and a similarly libertarian-minded Republican—is getting grilled during his confirmation hearing to become director of the Office of Management and Budget. Arizona Senator John McCain had just finished his inquisition and ...

It may not feel this way but the libertarian fad is on its way out. Sure it dominates the English speaking Internet at the moment. Sure the absolute number of adherents is rapidly increasing by the day. However, as this oligarch funded movement is about to reach its moment of triumph, the engines will stall and it'll nosedive very rapidly (at least in its current form). This is primarily due to realization of early members that they are fighting for a hideous neo-feudal future that they will most likely not benefit from. To visualize the state of the movement, picture a fire that begins in the middle of the forest. As it spreads and rages in all directions, the original center is no ...

When a poor person steals from the rich, Mick Mulvaney calls it a crime. When the rich steal from the poor, he calls it capitalism. On Wednesday, the White House budget director appeared before the House Financial Services Committee to deliver the semiannual report of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, of which he is also the acting head, and to dispel rumors that he might run to replace Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) as speaker of the House. Mick Mulvaney is a busy man. Or maybe not. A day before the hearing, The Associated Press reported that the CFPB has not taken a single enforcement action against any financial institution during the six months Mulvaney has been at the helm. The end of the Cold War and the rise of Donald Trump have left classical liberals without a political home. Senator Rand Paul is a man out of time. It was only a few years ago that the editors of Reason magazine held him up as the personification of what they imagined to be a “libertarian moment,” a term that enjoyed some momentary cachet in the pages of The New York Times, The Atlantic, Politico (where I offered a skeptical assessment), and elsewhere. But rather than embodying the future of the Republican Party, Paul embodies its past, the postwar conservative era when Ronald Reagan could proclaim that “the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism,” ...

California member of the United States House of Representatives Maxine Waters told supporters at an outdoor rally to "push back" against Trump, members of his administration, and his supporters. She said, "tell them they're not welcome." Republicans criticized Congresswoman Waters for what they believed to be an incitement of violence, and Democrat Party leaders have also provided criticism regarding her remarks. Waters responded by stating she was "surprised" by the criticism from her own in the Democrat Party, adding she was not going to be "intimidated by the likes of Donald Trump." President Trump responded with a tweet, stating that Waters ...

What does America’s political climate bode for us in the next 25-50 years? What if I told you the Democratic Party will fracture into multiple parties and the Republican Party will grow stronger? And what if I said changing demographics and the normalization of identity politics would be the reason? The Democratic Party has redoubled its embrace of identity politics. Whether it be Mexican-American, African-American, Chinese-American, Muslim-American or any of the two-dozen hyphenated American groups out there, these ethno-religious- cultural groups have by and large used the Democratic Party to further their group interests. Why wouldn’t they? Human beings are tribal creatures ...

Last week was especially glorious not just because we rejected the latest GOPe amnesty scheme, not just because we defunded the left’s union cash extortion machine with the Janus decision, and not just because Justice Kennedy is leaving to be the swing vote on his retirement community HOA. It was especially glorious because these enormous victories – these latest enormous victories – were the direct result of normal Americans giving the gimps, grifters, and geebos of Never Trump the George Costanza treatment by doing precisely the opposite of our alleged betters’ political instincts. To understand the madness gripping American leftists, try to see the world through their eyes. Presto, you’re now part of the raging resistance. Like the Palestinians who mark Israel’s birth as their nakba, or tragedy, you regard Donald Trump’s 2016 victory as a catastrophe. It’s the last thing you think of most nights, and the first thing most mornings. You can’t shake it or escape it. Whatever you watch, listen to or read, there are reminders — Donald Trump really is president. You actually believe The New York Times is too nice to him, so you understand why a Manhattan woman urged a reporter there to stop covering Trump to protest his presidency. And ...

Top Democratic senator bucks calls to abolish ICE: 'We are always going to need immigration enforcement'

Minnesota Sen. "We are a major country with major borders, so to me, the issue is what are those policies." New York Sen. McConnell Trolls Obama [with tan suit] After Kennedy Announcement

On Thursday, the day after Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his impending retirement, paving the way for another genuine conservative to join the Court, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who made sure the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat got filled by a conservative, seemingly had a little fun of his own, trolling former President Obama by wearing a suit exactly like his. Obama had caused mild controversy when he appeared in the briefing room in 2014 wearing a tan suit. McConnell had famously warned then-Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid back in 2013 not to destroy the filibuster and make a simple majority in the Senate enough to confirm a judicial nominee: ...

The Democrats have been relishing their popularity with millenials for a variety of reasons: 55% of millennials voted for Hillary Clinton, while roughly 33% voted for Donald Trump; an AP-Norc/MTV Youth Political Pulse poll found only 33% of young Americans approve of President Trump’s actions in handling his job as president, while the majority believe he is “mentally unfit” (60%), “generally dishonest” (62%) or “a racist” (63%); and a Pew Research Center study found millennials gave a 64% job approval rating to President Obama in 2009-2010 but only 27% approval of Trump in 2017-2018. So why should Democrats worry? Here's why. The Guardian reports ...
