The Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday formally postponed a vote on Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination, canceling a meeting set for later this week where a vote was initially expected to happen

Staffers for Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) sent out a notice that the Thursday business meeting had been canceled. The Senate is expected to leave town for the week on Tuesday. The delay for a vote to advance Kavanaugh's nomination was widely expected following allegations from Christine Blasey Ford, a professor who alleges that Kavanaugh held her down and tried to remove her clothes at a party in the early 1980s when both were in high school.

Kavanaugh has denied the allegations.

Grassley announced this week that Kavanaugh would testify before the Judiciary Committee for a second time next Monday, days after the initial committee vote was scheduled

Grassley has yet to say when the Senate panel will now vote on Kavanaugh's nomination

The chairman declined to comment when leaving a closed-door meeting of Judiciary Committee Republicans on Monday night. Grassley also dodged questions about it on Tuesday morning during an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt

Kavanaugh's nomination first appeared on the Judiciary Committee's agenda roughly a week after the initial round of hearings took place.

President Trump on Tuesday ramped up his defense of Kavanaugh amid the allegations, saying he "is not a man who deserves this."

Grassley announced this week that Kavanaugh would testify before the Judiciary Committee for a second time next Monday, days after the initial committee vote was scheduled.

Now Christine Blasey Ford's by her attorneys want a full FBI investigation before appearing. The FBI has never investigated alleged crimes which cannot prosecuted. The FBI also lacks jurisdiction to investigate non-federal crimes.

The blatant purpose of delay, delay, delay becomes ever more obvious with this farce. Ford is never going to appear.

As the Judiciary Committee has recognized and done before, an FBI investigation of the incident should be the first step in addressing her allegations. A full investigation by law enforcement officials will ensure that the crucial facts and witnesses in this matter are assessed in a non-partisan manner, and that the Committee is fully informed before conducting any hearing or making any decisions.

Had to believe that the Republicans let this happen. They have the power, and could simply ignore the nonsense and plow ahead.

Let's say that Kavanaugh did what was said: locked a girl in a room 30 years ago. Who cares?

It's long done. The statute of limitations has run. The whole thing is ridiculous.

Let's say that Kavanaugh did what was said: locked a girl in a room 30 years ago. Who cares?

That is not what Dr. Ford actually said, although it is what was originally reported. Dr. Ford wrote she was pushed into the bedroom where Kavanaugh held her down, and when Judge jumped on them she got free, ran to the hallway bathroom where she locked herself in, stayed about 15 minutes until she heard them go down the stairs, and she let herself out and left the house and went home. Allegedly.

While the bedroom door was locked, it kept others from coming in. When she got free and ran to the hallway bathroom, the locked bedroom door did not stop her from leaving. While she was locked in the bathroom, she locked herself in and then let herself out. Allegedly.

July 30 2018

CONFIDENTIAL

Senator Dianne Feinstein

Dear Senator Feinstein;

I am writing with information relevant in evaluating the current nominee to the Supreme Court.

As a constituent, I expect that you will maintain this as confidential until we have further opportunity to speak.

Brett Kavanaugh physically and sexually assaulted me during high school in the early 1980's. He conducted these acts with the assistance of REDACTED. Both were one to two years older than me and students at a local private school. The assault occurred in a suburban Maryland area home at a gathering that included me and four others.

Kavanaugh physically pushed me into a bedroom as I was headed for a bathroom up a short stair well from the living room. They locked the door and played loud music precluding any successful attempt to yell for help.

Kavanaugh was on top of me while laughing with REDACTED, who periodically jumped onto Kavanaugh. They both laughed as Kavanaugh tried to disrobe me in their highly inebriated state. With Kavanaugh's hand over my mouth I feared he may inadvertently kill me.

From across the room a very drunken REDACTED said mixed words to Kavanaugh ranging from "go for it" to "stop."

At one point when REDACTED jumped onto the bed the weight on me was substantial. The pile toppled, and the two scrapped with each other. After a few attempts to get away, I was able to take this opportune moment to get up and run across to a hallway bathroom. I locked the bathroom door behind me. Both loudly stumbled down the stair well at which point other persons at the house were talking with them. I exited the bathroom, ran outside of the house and went home.

I have not knowingly seen Kavanaugh since the assault. I did see REDACTED once at the REDACTED where he was extremely uncomfortable seeing me. I have received medical treatment regarding the assault. On July 6 I notified my local government representative to ask them how to proceed with sharing this information . It is upsetting to discuss sexual assault and its repercussions, yet I felt guilty and compelled as a citizen about the idea of not saying anything.

I am available to speak further should you wish to discuss. I am currently REDACTED and will be in REDACTED.

In confidence, REDACTED.

Call the vote, Grassley, and get it done.

A committee vote to recommend or not recommend the nomination is not an actual necessity.

The necessity is to report the nomination out to the Senate. It may be reported out with a recommendation to approve, to disapprove, or with no recommendation. Even where the committee majority is against the nomination, it is still reported out to the Senate for their consideration.

It may be reported out with or without a printed report. The chair of the Judiciary Committee may file a one page document reporting a nomination to the Senate.

Only two nominations have been reported out without recommendation; Wheeler H. Peckham in 1894 (rejected by the Senate) and Clarence Thomas in 1991 (approved by the Senate).

Just get it done before going out of session.

I do not believe that has been made clear. It is possible she had individual counseling/therapy before couples counseling. I believe either would qualify as "medical treatment" under modern definition.

Modern language abuse includes certain things as a "disease" or "medical treatment" to make it payable by health insurance.

“Cut Bait”: As the Kavanaugh Nightmare Escalates, Trump Is Gripped with Uncertainty as Ivanka Suggests Cutting the Judge Loose

The threat of losing the House and Senate has stopped Trump from going scorched-earth on Christine Blasey Ford. If Trump antagonizes women voters, it could increase the odds Republicans would lose both houses in Congress.

White House has heard rumors that Ford’s account will be verified by women who say she told it to them contemporaneously. People worry, without apparent evidence, of another Ronan Farrow bomb dropping. One source says Ivanka Trump has told her father to “cut bait” and drop Kavanaugh.

Another reason Trump hasn’t gone to the mat for Kavanaugh is that he’s said to be suspicious of Kavanaugh’s establishment pedigree. “He’s a Bush guy, why would I put myself out there defending him?” Trump told people

“Trump wants this guy on the court, but Trump knows there are five other people he could put on the court if this falls apart,” a former official said.

[nolu chan] It is possible she had individual counseling/therapy before couples counseling.

I saw that she received the couples counseling in 2012 and had individual counseling the following year after that.

To be clear, there had been no suggestion that she sought any sort of medical attention at the time of the alleged incident, circa 1982.

You may want to follow the polygraph Q&A where no deception was detected.

Experts doubt claim of ‘truthful’ polygraph result from Kavanaugh accuser

by Eddie Scarry
Washington Examiner
September 17, 2018 04:31 PM

[excerpt]

Ford “engaged Debra Katz, a Washington lawyer known for her work on sexual harassment cases,” said the Post report, detailing how Ford recently decided to go public with her accusation. “On the advice of Katz, who said she believed Ford would be attacked as a liar if she came forward, Ford took a polygraph test administered by a former FBI agent in early August. The results, which Katz provided to the Post, concluded that Ford was being truthful when she said a statement summarizing her allegations was accurate.”

The report included no other information about the test.

A subsequent story by the New York Times identified the polygraph administrator as Jerry Hanafin, whose website says he is a retired FBI agent based in Virginia.

According to the Times, Hanafin said the result of the exam was that there was “no deception indicated,” meaning Ford “was being truthful” when he questioned her for the test.

Well, isn't that just special?

She was not detected being deceptive when she said a statement summarizing her allegations was accurate; i.e., it accurately described her allegations.

The statement summarizing her allegations could be a 100% accurate summary, even if the allegations themselves were 100% fiction.

Now why didn't this trained former FBI agent ask her about whether her allegations were truthful?

No they can’t, dip shit. It will cause a blue wave at the next election cycle.

The blue wave with be overmatched by a red wave if the Republicans press ahead and motivate their voters.

If the Republicans don't use their power and fail to put Kavanaugh on the court, there will be a blue wave ANYWAY - the Left hates Trump and they will come out and they will vote. But there will be no countervailing red wave. The Right will be demoralized and will stay home.

The Democrats use their power, all of it. And that's why the whole national policy agenda is their belief system.

The Republicans don't, so they lose anyway, and they don't get their agenda.

Insult me all you want. You sound like a coward. A lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court is at stake - and you, and the Republicans, are so afraid of an election cycle that you're going to squander that opportunity, to simply lose anyway? I'm not a retard, but you guys are pussies. That's why the Democrats win: they always fight. It's their cardinal advantage over you guys. They fight, and you run away from the fight. Every time.

I don't care if he raped her. It's 30 years ago. They were minors. It doesn't matter, to me.

Republicans are such stupid, sniveling cowards. Clinton? Obama? What these men did thirty years ago was also disgraceful. Republicans bring the stuff up and bandy it around, AS IF it were important, and the Democrats fucking ignore them and plow ahead and win. Republicans tried to impeach Clinton for lying over a blowjob, and a blue wave came out and gave the Democrats MORE SEATS in a mid-term lame-duck election. Never happens, but it happened, because in the end Democrat voters are smart enough to realize that the moral failings of individual men are TOTALLY IRRELEVANT when power and policy are at stake. ALL MEN are sinners - and Democrats don't hold their leaders accountable for that fact, and they don't LET the Republicans hold them accountable for it either. They ignore the bitching, ignore the complaints, put their heads down and charge through.

Democrats are like Patton - they fight to win..

Republicans HAVE the power and can bulldoze through right now, like Democrats. Instead, they're actually stalling and CARING about some guy's high school sexual hijinks 34 years ago, and in the process squandering their opportunity to control the Supreme Court, because some girl was groped in the 1980s.

If the Republicans blow this, they deserve to lose, and they will, and that will be it. Game over. The Democrats have no power. The Republicans are GIVING THEM power. Just before an election that Republicans are very likely to lose.

If high school sexual hijinks are disqualifying from office, the Republican party is doomed. Strike the colors and go home.

The proper response to this is what the Democrats do: give the opposition the finger, use power, ignore their bleating, plow forward and impose their will.

I think it's dawning on her that she's in waaaay over her head.

Someone miscalculated and told her the Republicans, misogynists all, would try to bury it and go forward with the vote despite the accusation. And that would be that. Then the Democrats would have the excuse they were looking for to vote "no".

I don't think she ever envisioned herself testifying, under oath, on national television, in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. But she's been in academia her entire life. She doesn't know the real world.

I'm still confused as to why she said Mark Judge was there. She had to know he'd deny it making it two against one.

Maybe he'll testify he was out of the country that year.

Very unfair to any defendant.

This bitch wrote a similar letter during Judge Gorsich's hearing. It has been covered up, but some honest Congressmen remember it well. So Why not trample over the evil Democraps and vote Kavanaugh in!

Liberals are like Slinkys. They're good for nothing, but somehow they bring a smile to your face as you shove them down the stairs.

Grassley and the GOP actually played this perfectly, and got the best result possible given Feinstein's dirty trick. They demonstrated good faith by delaying the committee vote and offering a chance to tell her story under oath, in public or in private. She has refused. In the minds of most voters, they acted with reasonable fairness.

One last thought, the Pubbies played this one pretty well. Borrowed these comments from another site.

Those are good questions although the other three may have been unaware at the time that there was alleged hanky panky going on in the other room.

True. But they could testify a) there was a party, b) Kavanaugh and Judge were there, and c) they were both very drunk. Given the statements on record by Kavanaugh and Judge, that alone would be damning.

Or they could say there was a party but the two drunk boys were Brett Kavastein and Mark Juggs.

They were given lemons and made lemonade. I would have shoved the lemons up Feinstein's ass, but that's me.

There are many good reasons not to confirm Kavanaugh...

Really?

Like exactly WHAT??
