NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - A Metro Police officer shot a man who struck the officer with his car early Saturday morning.

The incident started along 5th Avenue and Broadway just after midnight. Police say someone flagged them down and told them a man was waiving a gun and threatening people from inside his car.

When officers approached the suspect's Chrysler 300, he drove off and nearly hit pedestrians. Police say he hit a patrol car and at least three civilian vehicles.

The driver also struck Sergeant Kris Delap, who then fired shots at the vehicle, hitting the suspect.

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Pasquala Walls, who is from Memphis.

Walls drove down to the Exxon on 12th Avenue and Broadway, got out of his car, and ran away on foot. A group of citizens chased after him and Walls ended up falling to the ground after a struggle with the group, police say. That's when police got to the scene learned Walls had in fact been shot.

Police recovered a loaded nine-millimeter pistol from Walls' car that had an extended magazine with 26 rounds. The gun was in the front floor board of the car.

"This man chose not to stop for police, chose to drive off recklessly, nearly striking pedestrians and striking a police officer," said MNPD spokesperson Kris Mumford. "It's a very dangerous situation and miraculously no pedestrians were struck."

Delap, a 26 year veteran of the department, was also admitted to Vanderbilt for treatment. Mumford said the injuries are concerning but not life-threatening.

Delap currently works with Metro's Central precinct as a community coordinator sergeant and was working with the precinct's new entertainment district initiative at the time of the incident.

Mumford tells News4 that Walls has a criminal history in Nashville, and that he had two outstanding warrants -- one for aggravated assault and another for evading arrest.

Metro Police notified TBI of the incident, however TBI tells News4 they are not investigating at this time.

No cop SHOT walls?
Oh, poor Deckard …
He will be so disappointed when he returns.

I was really looking for a “police-shoots-man” story to post in Deckard’s absence.

This was the best story I could find – in lieu of …

He'll appreciate that you're thinking of him.     : )

I did finally realize why black women give their kids names like Pasquala. It's so we don't even have to go searching for crime photos and mugshots to determine the race of perps in these cases. Pasquala is a name made to be printed on an FBI Most Wanted poster.

Notice the yellow headline but the article just made me want to laugh.

NashvilleScoop: Another White MNPD Officer shot a Black man that fled from him in Nashville

... Walls, whose car was severely damaged and had lost a front tire, was traveling on the rim, turned into the Exxon parking lot at 1101 Broadway where he attempted to run from the vehicle. Citizens in the parking lot gave chase and struggled with Walls, who fell to the ground. Officers quickly arrived and rendered aid to Walls who had been shot. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he is in critical condition. ... Walls, whose address is listed in Memphis but is known to have lived in Nashville, was driving on a revoked license. A loaded nine-millimeter pistol with an extended magazine containing 26 rounds was recovered from the front floorboard of the Chrysler 300. Walls is a convicted cocaine felon in Shelby County. In Davidson County, Walls has outstanding warrants for aggravated assault (allegedly fired shots into the air after a physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend) and felony evading arrest. ...

Apparently, Pasquala is very dangerous. Mostly to birds flying overhead when he starts waving his gun around and shooting it in the air before he races off in his Ghettomobile Chrysler, smashing into parked cars and a police SUV.

The only tragedy here is that the innocent yout', Pasquala, is still breathing.

Sergeant Kris Delap needs more range time.

You're dead wrong. It's 99%. LOL

Sergeant Kris Delap needs more range time.

I'm sure some colleague will tell him tactfully once he's out of the hospital.

If I waived my guns, they'd probably leave me and then go commit gun violence.
