Title: The Sad, Sad State Of Virginia

Ever since its citizens liked Ike in ‘52 (other than one brief hiccup in 1964 when Johnson trounced Goldwater almost everywhere), the Commonwealth of Virginia had voted reliably Republican, until 2008. That year, in a wave election, Democrat Barack Obama won several states Republicans typically win, like Florida, North Carolina and Arizona.

One could have been forgiven, then, for thinking Virginia would come back to the fold after the hipness wore off and the cold, hard reality of quasi-socialist governance became all-too-real. After all, this is Old Dominion we’re talking about, the land of Monticello and Williamsburg, of Washington, Jefferson, Madison, and more prominent founding Americans than anywhere else. From Nathaniel Bacon to George Mason to Patrick Henry and countless more, freedom and resistance to tyranny have been an indelible part of that great state’s heritage.

But sadly, the blue never wore off. It only grew deeper and more dominant, until last week, when the tiniest tint of red faded into the darkness like the last sunset of a dying man, never to return.

That’s right, folks. With a Democratic governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, both United States senators, seven of 11 representatives, and now both State houses, the Commonwealth of Virginia is now officially a blue state on par with the socialistic dystopias of California, New York, and New England. It’s been a long time coming, albeit a slow, gradual march to the abyss, but the land of the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence, and “sic semper tyrannis” has now become the land of the snowflakes and social justice warriors.

Which leaves many wondering, how on earth did this happen? Fox News host Laura Ingraham’s Wednesday night analysis may have gotten the attention of Media Matters, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less true. To Ingraham, the “road to Democratic dominance” in the formerly right-of-center state was paved with demographic changes that began taking place long before Trump’s 2015 trip down that New York City escalator.

“Virginia's foreign-born population nearly doubled from 2000 and 2017,” said Ingraham, “and these immigrants are mostly concentrated in Northern Virginia. Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, outside of D.C., and they are altering the demographic makeup of the state - and, as The Washington Post and others have pointed out, the electorate.”

Quoting The Washington Post’s reporting, the Fox News host noted that a full third of Fairfax County’s population is now comprised of foreign-born individuals. “Half of the elementary school students there speak a foreign language at home,” said Ingraham. “And since immigrants are more likely to vote Democrat, well, this, of course has dragged the electorate to the left. That's just a fact of life.”

As much as the left wishes to curb discussion about such things, she’s not lying. The Hispanic percentage of Virginia’s population alone went from 7.9 percent in 2010 to 9.6 percent in 2018, accounting for almost half of the state’s overall population growth during that time. While most are undoubtedly good people, hard workers, and solid economic contributors, the fact that they come from ‘big government’ countries with little regard for personal freedom makes them more likely, sadly, to vote for such policies in their new country. And exit polling shows that 60 to 70 percent of them do, without fail, election after election. Such voting behaviors, of course, are likely over time to lend themselves to turning their new homes into the same sort of hellholes they left, but for whatever reason, most are either unable or unwilling to see the tragic irony.

Hispanics and other immigrants aren’t the only factors, of course. Northern Virginia has experienced an exodus of people seeking an escape from the bleak economic conditions of both Maryland and Washington D.C. for years. They too fail to see the irony as they poison their new home with the same failed policies as their old ones. Either way, demographics will always be destiny. It’s a fact the left has understood for decades, but Republicans have either failed to see or feared to point out.

Poster Comment:

It’s infuriating to watch this train wreck in slow motion. It’s also happening in North Carolina as it, too, slowly transitions to a liberal northeastern state. And you can bet your sweet bippy that they’re gunning for Texas, too because they know that if they flip Texas it’s game over. The fact that Betomale O’Dork came close to unseating Ted Cruz should send a shiver down the spine of every conservative. (And it should cause the Texas Republican Party to wake the h3ll up.)

Hey, Republicans, you want to start winning again? Do you want to save a great deal - NOT all, but a lot - of your agenda?

Then you need allies.

Independent Centrists are available as allies, but you are going to have to give us something other than the finger.

Unless you LIKE being defeated and gradually losing everything. If you do like defeat, then steady on: you're already achieving that.

Anti-Catholic bigots like you give us no choice. We have to take over the country with our immigrants to drive you people out of power and remake it in our image.

We are conquering you know, state by state, and when it is done, we will have universal health care, for all of you, whether you like it or not.

We will also have a wealth tax that will redistribute the 90% of the wealth that has become concentrated in the top 5% and make it more like 50% in the top 25%, which is sustainable.

Given the scandals of the Catholic Church itself, which are also killing it, I guess we won't successfully kill abortion - but it's a cinch you assholes are never going to get it done. Know why? Because you have never reconciled yourselves to the New Deal. You won't accept that ending abortion means you need a hell of a lot more welfare and school money, for all of the kids that will be born. And THEREFORE you will never have the numbers to abolish abortion on your terms.

We might have been allies to do it, because we can't do it either, since you won't accept welfare. Therefore, I place the blame for abortion law where it belongs: on you fucking Christian Republicans, whose party GAVE us abortion in the first place, and who hate the poor and won't obey Jesus when it comes to making life tolerable for the poor.

Therefore, you are being driven down and out, because you are evil, greedy, wealth-worshipping shits. YOU have lost, and you do not have the birth rate or the population to regain power.

The Supreme Court is, what? 6 Catholics and three Jews.

So, the future will EITHER be me, or it will be the Democrats. It will not be you.

You have succeeded in making me hate you. Utterly hate you. I hate your "Christianity" - it's SUCH a fraud and a hypocritical lie. You hate poor people You are racists to the bone. You're the old South. We had to burn you out once to free the slaves, and now we've got Virginia, thanks to our Catholic immigration. Kentucky too. We took Reagan's California too.

And we're coming for Texas, and steadily advancing in numbers.

I didn't used to hate you. I used to be your ally, back in the age of Reagan, W Bush. Even the beginning of Trump.

But we're done now. Trump is more my guy than yours.

I never cared about guns, but now, I'm ready to trade your gun rights to get what I want.

I WAS your ally on that, ready to hold the line on it (even though I don't care) because that's what allies do.

But not any more.

We're now enemies. I'll vote for Trump, unless Bloomberg runs, then I'm going for Bloomberg. And so will the rest of the Independents. If the US turns into France, or Sweden - good - let's get there faster.

The fastest way we get there is for me and people like me to stop trying to get along with you primitive assclowns. You make your hatred for me and mine visible everyday. Why should I remain with you when that is so clear.

Nah. It's time for you to die, politically. For the taxes to go up on the rich, to bring them back in line with the rest of the country and balance the budget on THEIR backs.

It's time to have single payer health insurance.

And it's time to more heavily regulate guns - because you hate it, and if you go nuts, then we can shoot you, just like back in the 1860s.

The marriage of the Catholic Center and the "Christian" Right is over.

Yep, there's a lot of hatred in your post. You hate people and want to condemn them to government provided medical services, government provided personal defense, and government provided dignity. Or, in accurate terms, rationed medical services, exploding violence against the helpless, and dependency sloth.

The most comprehensive study ever conducted about defensive gun use in the United States was a 1995 survey published by criminologist Gary Kleck in the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology. This study reported between 2.1 and 2.5 million defensive gun uses every year.

Today, British hospitals are so overcrowded that doctors regularly treat patients in hallways. The agency recently canceled tens of thousands of surgeries, including urgent cancer procedures, because of severe resource shortages. And this winter, nearly 17,000 patients waited in the backs of their ambulances -- many for an hour or more -- before hospital staff could clear space for them in the emergency room.

More on government run medical services here, here, and here. You probably won't read those, not thoughtfully anyway, as you are too busy feeling your hatred to consider facts. You want the government to do what you are supposed to do yourself, even though history shows that it cannot, will not, and will do more harm than good.

I did not start here filled with hate and contempt - not at all! I started out here, years ago, very close on most issues, and willing to give the benefit of the doubt on a good many others.

But I've met with unyielding hatred for years, particularly with regards to my religion.

My Christianity that you hate is simply believing the Bible and admitting that Jesus is the son of God and praying for forgiveness of my sins. It is not a hypocritical lie.

You've got Virginia. That makes you a liar because you said you weren't a democrat and you hate them. But when you take your mask off you support murdering people and abortion people taking over state legislatures.

How is anyting your Catholic immigration, you're not a Catholic not even close. You are a Vic looking in the mirror religion.

Kentucky now has a pro abortion governor and that makes you happy. That is why the Catholics on the Supreme court keep abortion legal, because you are masked as you put it and pretend you are something you are not. Pretend that you have virtue when you are lacking in that department.

good Catholic monarch

When true Christianity escaped Catholic oppression, the Body of Christ had no need for "monarchs" appointed to rule over us.

What you see in American ideals is the outworking of the verse "...if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed". John 8:36

You can keep your "monarchs", no matter how "good" they are. The Catholic cult is always tangled up with self-appointed kings, emperors, or dictators. Catholicism breeds subjection, being itself a form of slavery.

The personal freedom you and Vic (and everyone here on this forum) enjoy today is a byproduct of Biblical Christianity. Enjoy it while you can...it is quickly disappearing.

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32

Name one powerful centralized government that was not the cause of massive destruction and social decay within three generations.

The United States of America.

Our federal government has always been supreme, since the Civil War moreso, and since the creation of the Federal Reserve, the Income Tax, the New Deal, and the civil rights and desegregation efforts, indubitably so.

The New Deal came in with FDR's election in 1932. That's six generations ago. The generations in question are: (1) Greatest, (2) Silent, (3) Baby Boomers, (4) Gen X, (5) Millennials, (6) Generation Z.

We are six generations into the New Deal era, double your number.

Massive destruction and social decay? Ha! We're richer than we've ever been, freer in terms of civil rights than we've ever been. We lead the world economically, and dominate it militarily. Our crime rates are very low and going lower.

This is why I myself am a status-quo centrist. The status quo is pretty damned good for most Americans, and has gotten progressively better and better, for most Americans, over the course of the past 6 generations.

If you're seeing massive destruction and social decay in the same period, we're looking at things through very different lenses.

centralized government

A central government is the government that holds absolute supremacy over a unitary state.

The difference between a central government and a federal government is that the autonomous status of self-governing regions exists by the sufferance of the central government and are often created through a process of devolution. As such they may be unilaterally revoked with a simple change in the law. An example of this was done in 1973 when the Northern Ireland Constitution Act 1973 abolished the government of Northern Ireland which had been created under the Government of Ireland Act 1920. It is common for a federal government to be brought into being by agreement between a number of formally independent states and therefore its powers to affect the status of the balance of powers is significantly smaller (i.e. the United States). Thus federal governments are often established voluntarily from 'below' whereas devolution grants self-government from above.

If we do not choose to call the USA a "centralized government", then here are seven more that fit the bill, that are very prosperous and strong, and have been for five generations and counting:

The United Kingdom, France, Italy, Japan, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark.
